Philadelphia, PA (June, 2021) – National Real Estate Development, LLC (National Development) today announced it has been recognized with a 2020 Hilton Legacy Award for Lifestyle Brands Developer of the Year for the development of Canopy by Hilton Center City Philadelphia at East Market. The annual awards program celebrates owners and development partners in the Americas for contributions toward brand excellence and development efforts. Hilton recognized nearly 40 high performing owners and developers in 14 different categories across the nation.
Opened in August 2020, National Development renovated and redeveloped an iconic 13-story, high-rise building into a 236-key franchised hotel under the Canopy by Hilton flag. Developed as an adaptive reuse of Philadelphia’s historic Stephen Girard Building, BLT Architects, an integrated architecture firm, worked in collaboration with interior designer AvroKo to pay homage to the Philadelphia’s historic roots while creating an authentic modern experience. The hotel is an integral part of the most recent phase of East Market, a one-million-square-foot, mixed-use development project helping to redefine and enhance the entire district east of City Hall in Center City Philadelphia to create a destination for consumers to work, live and visit.
“We are honored to be recognized by Hilton for this prestigious development award. Despite opening amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel has become a cornerstone of the neighborhood and is a shining light in the local hospitality market,” said Daniel Killinger, President of National Development. “Our success would not be possible without the hardworking property team dedicated to bring our vision of excellence to life.”
The Legacy Awards recognize the passion, creativity and innovative spirit of Hilton’s partners who are committed to quality projects that meet or exceed brand standards and have a positive impact on communities around the world. The leadership of Hilton’s development and brand teams select the winners based on strict criteria including, but not limited to, hotel quality and commitment to guest experience.
