Sheraton Grand Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA

Built in 1973, the full block development in Downtown Los Angeles consisted of a 485-key hotel in addition to a 32-story, 800,000-square-foot office building, an enclosed two-story 420,000-square-foot shopping mall (anchored by Macy’s), and a six-level parking structure with 2,000 parking spaces. In 2013, National and its local partner purchased the property. At acquisition, the Sheraton hotel was not meeting brand standards and was faced with losing its flag.  National Development, through their relationship with Starwood from the Westin Phoenix, worked through a Property Improvement Plan to secure the brand flag.

Upon purchase, the entire hotel was in immediate need of a refresh. National’s redevelopment plan included studying impactful changes to the physical improvements, such as bringing the lobby from one floor below the street level to street level, and creating a roof deck for events including a water and fire feature. Many renovation plans were analyzed and ultimately a more robust reconfiguration and renovation of all interior areas of the hotel was pursued. The brand supported our efforts by designating the hotel as a Sheraton Grand, a higher echelon within the Sheraton brand of which only five properties exist in the United States. Since completion, the Sheraton Grand has consistently ranked in the top 5% for hotels in Los Angeles on TripAdvisor.
